Leave Apple alone! | 06/07/2010 |

When I play devil's advocate I always seem to end up standing up for Apple. I think I must have been living in a cave, since I never knew how much Apple-hate there is in the world until the latest version of the Iphone was recently released. I'm not even going to bother saying what I think about the product, because it doesn't matter. The way I see it, Apple is a very successful company that designs and sells products that most people would have considered to be the future, several years ago. They're polished, stylised and have a certain 'wow' factor to them. And quite frankly, if everybody had one of them, it would do wonders to the quality of the average youtube video. So please, before you join the hate crowd, just stop and think about what you hate, and why. Don't be taken in by confident, technology-savvy people who make blunt statements like 'Apple is bad'. Stop and think for a while about what's so bad about them. If their products aren't for you, but they appeal to a large fanbase, there must be something desirable and good about them. I admire Steve Jobs for building such a successful company that understands its customers so well. The way I see it, most of the haters either hate them because one of their tech-savvy friends does, or because they want something to hate. Sure, you're free to dislike the products. Don't buy them. Just don't spend your time hating them, since it makes you appear desparate for attention and totally unaware of what makes them so successful in the first place. I guess I'm just posting this because I've been one of the people who has followed the hate crowd in certain situations. Not because I hate the product, but because I've been influenced by people who I've considered to be more knowledgable about stuff than I am. However, I feel that by being neutral, I can take a step back and see it for what it really is. Why take a side in an argument that has no real meaning or outcome? It reminds me of those stupid Nvidia VS AMD threads. Supporting just one company doesn't gain you anything, and given the opportunity the firm will only rip you off as much as any other company. We need competition in order to advance and improve. From what I see, Apple has helped to introduce people to computing in a more user-friendly way than other products have. They've made the tech industry seem cooler and more hip than before, and their focus on style has brushed off on other companies. Everybody wins in the long term! As I've said before, it shouldn't matter about what I think about the company or products. I won't use them if I don't want to, but I respect that other people might want to use them and I'm not going to be a total elitist and accuse them of being stupid because they don't have the same frame of mind as I do. Want a challenge in life? Remain neutral. That way you can always find somebody to argue with ;) |
